Disclosure Premieres “Arachnids”: A Dance Floor Web of Experimental Beats
UK electronic heavyweights Disclosure are weaving a fresh sonic web with the upcoming premiere of their single “Arachnids,” set to drop this Friday, October 25. This new track will arrive via WHP Records, the latest imprint from The Warehouse Project, which is fast becoming a platform for innovative, boundary-pushing dance music.
Guy and Howard Lawrence, the two brothers behind Disclosure, have always been boundary-pushers, but “Arachnids” takes their sound even further into uncharted territory. If you’re expecting their signature sleek house grooves, think again. This time, the duo is leaning into darker sounds that explore the underground vibes of UK electronic music. Buzz around the single ignited after Guy premiered the track during a live Twitch session in September, sparking excitement and curiosity among fans and producers alike.
What’s the deal with the spiders?
The title “Arachnids” might sound like a creepy horror movie reference—perfect for spooky season—but it actually has a pretty chill backstory. During the Twitch livestream, Guy Lawrence shared that while working in his home studio, he noticed an unusual number of spiders lurking about, particularly daddy longlegs. Instead of getting freaked out (as many of us might around Halloween!), Guy turned it into creative fuel. He even pointed out that one of the sounds in the track mimics the hiss of a spider—because, as Guy joked, "What else would you name it?"
He explained: “The house I’m in is pretty prone to daddy longlegs, and there was just tons, so I just named it after them. That’s why it’s called ‘Arachnids.’” With Halloween just around the corner, it seems like the perfect track to get dance floors shaking while staying on theme with the spooky vibes. Moments like this reveal Disclosure’s playful spirit, even when they’re crafting serious bangers for the underground scene.
Spinning Experimental Vibes
Musically, “Arachnids” is an absolute trip. The track blends the punchy warehouse beats we’ve come to love from Disclosure, but with an experimental twist. There’s a pulsating 808 at its core, but surrounding it are wild acid synths, syncopated hi-hats, and distorted basslines. According to Lawrence, the track is a lesson in not sticking to conventions: “I hope this can be a lesson for everyone that there should be no limitations on genre-jumping, BPM jumping, slowdowns, key changes—just f**ing go wherever you want and let your brain run wild.”*
And that’s exactly what “Arachnids” does. It’s unpredictable, shifting between tempos and moods in a way that feels like it’s constantly evolving—much like a spider weaving a web. Disclosure’s ability to push electronic boundaries while keeping it club-friendly is on full display here, making “Arachnids” a perfect fit for the more underground-focused WHP Records.
What’s Next for Disclosure?
If “Arachnids” isn’t enough to feed your Disclosure appetite, don’t worry. The brothers have revealed an ambitious release schedule stretching into 2025. In November, fans can expect the drop of “King Steps,” followed by “When The Sun Comes Up” in December. There’s also another exciting collaboration with Chris Lake due in January 2025.
Their move to release music through WHP Records and dive deeper into experimental sounds is only adding to their ever-evolving narrative. So mark your calendars for October 25, because “Arachnids” is about to drop a whole new kind of Disclosure beat.
