LALENA: Redefining Electronic Music with Emotion and Innovation
The rising DJ and producer on blending deep house and techno, her journey through Germany’s underground scene, and staying authentic in a rapidly evolving industry.

In a recent interview with Beatportal, rising DJ and producer LALENA discussed her journey through Germany’s vibrant electronic music scene, her unique approach to blending genres, and how personal experiences have deeply influenced her work. Known for her innovative fusion of deep house and techno with raw emotional depth, LALENA continues to challenge and redefine the boundaries of electronic music.
Growing up in Germany, LALENA was immersed in the country’s rich and diverse music culture. Reflecting on her early influences, she said, "Surviving Cologne’s carnival and Munich’s Oktoberfest was a key motivator! Germany has a deep electronic music culture, and cities like Berlin have been epicenters for techno and house music. Being surrounded by this environment exposed me to a wide range of electronic sounds from a young age." This exposure pushed her to experiment with different genres and sounds, allowing her to craft a distinct style.
For LALENA, her music is a personal outlet, shaped by the highs and lows of her life. "When I’m going through tough times, that’s when I have the strongest connection to the music I’m creating. I blend deep house and techno because they help me channel those emotions into something rhythmic and immersive." She uses various beats, melodies, and textures to create a sound that resonates not just with her, but also with her audience.
The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on Germany’s electronic music scene, and LALENA observed the shifts that followed. "During the lockdowns, young people missed out on what would have been the start of their techno journeys. Once restrictions lifted, there was this pent-up energy, and we saw a massive wave of interest in harder, more intense techno," she explained. For LALENA, this shift reflects how electronic music evolves in response to cultural and social changes.
Though visuals play a part in her live performances, LALENA remains grounded in the idea that music should always be the focal point. "Sure, a killer light show can enhance a set, but at the end of the day, it’s the music that should take center stage," she said.
Balancing the demands of being a DJ, producer, and artist with personal life isn’t always easy, but LALENA finds ways to manage the chaos. "When I’m not at the studio or a gig, I recharge by getting outdoors. Whether it’s a hike in the mountains or a peaceful walk by the lake, nature helps me clear my head and find inspiration."
LALENA’s approach to music production has always involved embracing the latest technology. "From the start, I’ve been working with tools that shape how music is produced today. For me, it’s not about adapting to new tech—it’s about utilizing the tools at my fingertips to craft my sound."
She credits much of her growth to the guidance of mentors, particularly David Hasert, who has played a pivotal role in her development as a music producer. "David’s advice has been priceless. He always told me to finish projects before starting new ones—no chaos, just a clear path to success." Additionally, she learned DJing through long nights with friend and mentor Björn Clayer.
When asked about advice for emerging artists, LALENA stressed the importance of authenticity. "Stay true to your sound and keep pushing boundaries. Build a strong network and collaborate with others in the community. Success doesn’t happen overnight, so stay resilient and have fun with it."
Looking to the future, LALENA is focused on continuing to innovate and experiment. "In the next five to ten years, I see myself collaborating with unexpected artists and experimenting with new sounds. I want to create tracks that make people dance, smile, or cry while enjoying every moment of the journey."
As LALENA continues to make her mark on the electronic music scene, her blend of emotional depth and genre exploration sets her apart, making her an artist to watch in the years to come.
