Dutch producer and DJ Easttown has been rapidly gaining recognition in the house music scene with his signature blend of sample-rich, disco-infused house. His tracks have been featured on renowned labels like Franky Rizardo’s LTF Records, Folamour’s House Of Love, and most notably Cécille, where he made a splash in April this year with his "Chaos" EP. The release garnered widespread acclaim and heavy rotation from top-tier artists such as Marco Carola, Fleur Shore, Franky Rizardo, Pawsa, and Dennis Cruz. With such a strong debut, there’s every reason to keep an eye out for the follow-up to his most successful release to date.

Q: Congratulations on your second EP of 2024 with Cécille Records! How did this collaboration come about for another release on the label? It seems like you have a great working relationship with Nick and Marc. Can you tell us more about that?

A: I immediately felt a good connection with Nick and Marc when I met them during their ADE showcase last year. They are really friendly and supportive guys, and on top of that, very professional, sharp, and easy to work with. It’s important to me to really work together on a release as a team. I feel that music is sometimes viewed merely as a ‘product’ these days. But that’s not the case in this collaboration. We’re discussing which tracks are going to be on the EP, what the artwork will look like, and how the final versions of the tracks are going to sound. We communicate almost daily in the weeks leading up to the release.

Q: Your previous EP with Cécille Records gained significant attention, and many top artists continue to play your tracks months later. What has changed for you since that release?

A: I’m very happy with all the support I’ve received (and am still receiving) on the Chaos EP—not only from artists but also from music lovers who bought the vinyl and show their love via social media. That’s the reason why I’m making and releasing music. Besides that, it put me on the radar of established artists, labels, and promoters. Maybe the thing I like the most is the variety of artists who played tracks from the EP. From the stages of Dekmantel and Defected to parties like Circoloco and mainstream festivals. I never expected that to happen with my music, and I hope it continues with the next EP.

Q: The new Timeless EP features 4 tracks along with a digital bonus track. Can you tell us more about this project?

A: It’s my second vinyl release, and it still feels special. I'm thankful for the trust Cécille is putting in me. The tracks have a sound that people are used to from me now: groovy, disco-infused house with an old-school vibe. With each track, I tried to incorporate different influences. “Slipstream” and “Timeless” have more disco elements, “Phunky” has a ‘tribal’ vibe, and “Balancing” leans more towards a ‘classic house’ sound.

Q: What do these tracks mean to you personally, and is there a particular story or inspiration behind any of them?

A: The AA-track is called "Timeless," like the EP. I chose that name because I used several samples from older house tracks (from 1994-2000), which sounded timeless to me. I think it’s amazing that house music, and certain tracks in particular, are so timeless—some tracks sound like they could have been made yesterday. I wanted to highlight that with this EP.

Q: You moved your studio. Has anything changed for you here?

A: Yes, my studio in Amsterdam was just renovated. It’s located in the headquarters of event companies ID&T, DGTL, and Awakenings, and it's next to other studios. Working there is really inspiring because you‘re surrounded by people who are also working in music. The studio feels really fresh, and I can’t wait to spend a lot of time in there.

Q: As a DJ and producer, what message do you aim to communicate through your music, and how would you describe your sound?

A: My main goal is to share positive energy, both during DJ sets and through my music. I hope people are having a good time dancing to my music in clubs and at festivals around the world—the more, the better.

Q: What are your future plans?

A: My plan is to consistently release music in the coming years while continuing to shape and refine my sound, playing gigs during the weekends. I hope this will bring me to many places around the world to play (my) music. My next two releases are already scheduled. The first one after the Timeless EP will be on the label of Dutch house legend Michel de Hey, and the following one on Dennis Cruz’s Muse label. I’m already planning the releases after that, but those will remain a secret for now.

Q: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to in your free time?

A: I don’t actually listen to music that much; I mostly listen to podcasts and interviews. But when I do, it depends on my mood and environment at that moment. I enjoy listening to ambient music (which I’m actually making as well) to relax or focus. But I also like to listen to sets of Marcel Dettmann, DVS1, Palms Trax, and Shanti Celeste at the gym, for instance. I like the energy of the music they play, and they inspire me a lot with the way they mix and select tracks.

Q: What is one of your all-time favorite releases, regardless of genre?

A: Impossible question to answer, sorry!

Q: What does a perfect day off look like for you?

A: Keeping it close to my ‘normal life’ at the moment, my day would start with a nice coffee, followed by a gym session, a shower, and a good lunch. Then off to the studio to start a track from scratch, create something fresh. Then fully hyped about the new track, I would head home to have dinner with friends. The day would end in Amsterdam city for some drinks and, of course, go to the club (or festival in summer) afterwards.

Q: Lastly, how would your best friend describe the character of Easttown?

A: I guess: optimistic, driven, passionate, stubborn.
