Lane 8 Delivers his Fifth Full-Length Album, 'Childish'
California-born and Denver-based DJ/producer Daniel Goldstien (aka Lane 8) delivers his first album since 2022, one of his most creative long players to date.
Childish will be the fifth full length album on Lane 8’s own This Never Happened label. The album features collaborators ranging from Arctic Lake and label mates Sultan + Shepard to indie pop vocalist Art School Girlfriend and electronic duo Kasablanca. The album title and the themes within this project are surrounded around Goldstien’s observations of his kids as they grow more artistically curious.
"The idea of being, or acting ‘childish’ tends to have a negative connotation, but I think there’s so much we can learn from kids and their creativity to enrich our own lives,” Goldstien said. “It was this realization that led me to focus on the word “childish” as a sort of mantra while I made these songs.”
The artwork for the album was created by Goldsteins daughter using pearlers, which colored craft beads used for gridded art creations, further adding to the theme of creativity with children. With this constant theme throughout the album, and the deeply personal nature of it, Goldstien intends the album to be heard as a full body of work, with no advanced singles released prior to the album.
“The records that inspired me as a child, I’d buy on a feeling,” he explains. “I wanted to emulate that sense of magic rather than have these singles out in the world for months before the record’s released. I’m really excited for everyone to experience the entire album as a whole.”
Lane 8 has continued to perfect his sound, most recently with 2022’s Reviver and 2020’s Brightest Lights, and now he does the same with Childish. Similar to his ‘This Never Happened’ live show concept, where fans are not aloud to record on their phones and instead must experience the moment in front of them, Childish is something that Goldstien wants fans to experience as a whole and in the moment.
