Manchester-based artist Private Joy, known for her work with soul band Lovescene and collaborations with Ruf Dug, Finn, and Lenzman, steps into the spotlight with her debut solo EP, Desire. Drawing inspiration from Streetsoul, 80s RnB, and 00s soulful house, this 18-minute project on Rhythm Section INTL showcases Private Joy’s sultry vocals and rich, emotional storytelling.

The EP opens with “Eyes on You,” featuring a Joe Sample-inspired intro and deep, harmonic basslines. “Love Find A Way” brings in smooth strings and harp by Ada Francis, channeling the best of Osunlade’s soulful house vibe. On the B side, “Playful” offers a downbeat soul jam with Afrobeat influences, while “Pure Love” captures the essence of late 90s underground RnB with a guest verse from Meduulla. The title track “Desire” closes the EP, blending jazzy Rhodes, synths, and Anita Baker-inspired vocals into a modern ballad that exudes passion and depth.

With Desire, Private Joy offers a collection of tracks that explore themes of love, heartbreak, and desire, wrapped in a warm, soulful production that invites listeners into her world.
