Beatport Presents: IMS Connect Tokyo – Event Recap
The second instalment of this new wave of local community events from Beatport and IMS takes us to Japan's capital.
Following the roaring success of Beatport Presents: IMS Connect NYC in Brooklyn, the quest to deepen connections within the music industry continued at WALL&WALL in Tokyo on June 27th.
First up, Beatport Next alumni and current ambassador Risa Taniguchi piqued the audience’s curiosity as she demonstrated her top tips for DJing techno, and spoke of her love for the genre.
Daito Manabe, who boasts collaborations with the likes of Björk and Ryuichi Sakamoto, is an artist who undoubtedly pushes the boundaries when it comes to music and technology. Manabe gave the audience a glimpse into his process as he presented a production workshop with an emphasis on the relationship between sound and visual design.
DJ Nobu, in conversation with Yiqing Wan, spoke openly about his prolific career. Drawing on years of experience as a touring artist, Nobu shared wisdom and anecdotes that left attendees with a much deeper understanding of the intricacies of operating in today’s musical landscape.
When the workshops and Q&A came to an end, Beatport Next artist Stones Taro and Beatport Ambassador SAMO took to the stage to play out the night. Their well-curated DJ sets served as the ideal wrap up after an evening of thoughtful discussion and discovery.
IMS Ibiza returns on April 23-25, early bird badges are now available for purchase; secure your spot and save up to 45%.
