In 2018, a bright-eyed producer from the “Windy City” made a splash with his debut LP, Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 1. The bouncy, upbeat album became something of an instant classic as tracks like “Superlove” with Oh Wonder felt fans’ warm embrace. Suddenly, the name on the tip of many dance/electronic enthusiasts’ tongues was Whethan — a phenomenon poised to repeat with the advent of Vol. 2.

The long-awaited follow-up arrives nearly six full years after Vol. 1 but plays like it could be disc two, in a credit to their continuity. Though Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 is proof that Whethan’s stylistic fingerprint remains wide, the eight-tracker feels both fluid and cohesive. On it, the producer continues his kaleidoscopic tradition of hopscotching across genres ranging from future bass to electro-pop.

The sequel is led by four singles that showed appetites for Whethan’s latest project to be high. Each of them — “MONEY ON THE DASH,” “sick of myself,” “ROOM IS ON FIRE,” and “STEALTH BOMBER” — appear on the Los Angeles-based producer’s “Top Ten Tracks” list on the Beatport store.

Notably, “ROOM IS ON FIRE,” with Snakehips and AG Club, sits in pole position, trailed by the sped-up version and original mix of “MONEY ON THE DASH,” respectively. (Diplo and Armin van Buuren were among those to give “MONEY ON THE DASH” a boost via official remixes of the Elley Duhé feature in the months leading up to Vol. 2’s release.) Flowdan, MKLA, Nessa Barrett, and Shy Martin round out the LP’s high-profile cast of collaborators. Listen in full below.

Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 will enjoy road play on Whethan’s “LOAW2 Tour”. The seven-date supporting effort kicked off at Denver’s Bluebird Theater on July 11 and continues through July 27, making stops in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, LA, Brooklyn, and Washington, DC — the “cities and venues that started it all for me,” he says.

Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 is out now via Good Luck Have Fun. Buy it on Beatport.
