On June 13th, the electronic music community came alive at IMS Connect in Brooklyn, New York. This exclusive event hosted music professionals from all corners of the music industry, from inspiring DJs to record labels and booking agents.

It was a haven for networking and connecting with others in the electronic music scene. Engaged attendees gathered to listen and learn and be inspired, absorbing insightful knowledge through a DJ workshop, Q&A and networking hour.

The event also served as an opportunity to meet inspiring collectives enforcing positive changes in the industry. Members from Keychange, HER Dancefloor, Sisters in Sound, Collective BAE, Support Women DJs, and FEMME HOUSE were all in attendance. The shared core value and mission of these collectives are to advocate for women and other underrepresented groups.

Next up with a DJ workshop was internationally renowned DJ and record producer, A-Trak, who has been scratching vinyl for decades. He elaborated on his creative growth as a DJ, modern equipment, and his techniques and tricks of the craft. The World Champion turntablist pumped up the volume with a live demonstration that had the audience moving with the beat.

The spotlight then shone on DJ twins, Coco & Breezy, in a Q&A panel hosted by Lisa Kocay, freelancer for Forbes. The power duo shared their success story and insight into the challenges they faced along the way, encouraging attendees to just go for it.

“When we first started DJing, we were finding local bars around the neighborhood asking if we could DJ for free just to practice in front of people. We weren’t even doing bedroom DJing - as soon as we decided to DJ we were already putting ourselves out there."

After an educational afternoon, the freshly inspired audience headed to the rooftop for DJ sets by Fátima, DRĖĖĖMY, and Coco & Breezy. Tracks were spun well into the evening as the sun dropped under the city horizon.

This combination of industry wisdom, community, and a little dance party brought the local NYC music scene together, demonstrating Beatport’s continuous efforts to support music communities worldwide.
