Music Connects Us Aims to Destigmatize Mental Health Issues With New Interactive Report

A new report inspired by Beatport’s ReConnect stream back in November, which focused on mental health, aims to destigmatize mental health issues with several prominent dance music artists, including Kaskade, LOUISAHHH, Ben Rau, Scuba, Sarah Story, Junior Sanchez, and Yousef, sharing solutions, tips, advice, and stories of their own personal struggles with mental health.

While mental health problems have been central to industry-wide discussions for years, the lockdowns have brought new importance to the issue, as rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide skyrocketed in 2020.

Music Connects Us, which is a partnership between Beatport, the Association For Electronic Music, Silentmode, How Mental, Tom Middleton, and Arigami, surveyed over 140 people from around the world to share their stories in the fight against mental illness and depression. The organization also wants to provide solutions, harness the connective and healing power of music, and explores how functional music — like sound waves, breathwork, and meditation — can combine to help the healing process.
