Berlin Club IPSE Damaged in Fire
Flames from the famous Kreuzberg venue could be seen all over the German capital.
On early Monday morning, just before 6 AM, A local fire brigade was called on to respond to a fire that broke out at IPSE, a well-established nightclub located on the Landwehr Canal in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood.
Of the 80 firefighters who were called to respond to the blaze, one was injured during the extinguishing work. He is currently being treated at a local hospital. Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles around, but due to the current Coronavirus measures, the club was reportedly unoccupied when the fire started. The reason for the blaze is under investigation.
“The club has not been completely destroyed,” the club’s manager told Groove. “However, an exact damage assessment cannot be carried out at the moment because the site is still closed by the fire brigade,” it continues.
IPSE has supporting the struggling nightlife scene in Berlin during the coronavirus shutdown by hosting United We Stream livestream series, hosting acts like Ian Pooley, Daniel Wang, La Fleur, Sally C, Tereza, Blackloops, and more in their empty club just last month. The stream provides artists from Germany and Austria a platform during the current crisis, while helping to raise money for local clubs and their employees. IPSE hosted You can watch the performances here.
It was in this same stretch of the Landwehr canal that another Berlin venue, Club der Visionaere, was badly burned in a fire in June of last year.
