Jaguar is Beatportal’s Guest Editor in August

As part of Beatportal’s ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion and representation in electronic music, BBC presenter Jaguar will be our guest editor this month.

Along with her longtime duties as host of BBC Introducing Dance, where she showcases the next wave of emerging electronic producers, Jaguar is a DJ, producer, and journalist. She’s hosted her own thought-provoking podcast, interviewed some of the most inspiring young women currently working in music for Ballantine’s, and with Pete Tong is currently co-hosting The Big Questions, a multi-part video series presented by the International Music Summit that will explore of the most vital questions currently facing our scene.

Jaguar is also a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and diversity and empowerment have been central to everything she’s done since day one. This includes Future 1000, Jaguar’s initiative which aims to help 1000 women, trans and non-binary people with their music careers through online courses on DJing, production, radio presenting, and other key skills related to the industry.

Jaguar will be kicking off her Beatportal guest-editor role with a letter from the editor, in which she states her goals for the month, writing in-part: “I want to shake up the cannon, and rewrite minorities back into history, to truly reflect the artists that are coming through in electronic music, that you may not have heard of before,” she writes.

Following her letter of intent, she’ll publish several engaging interviews with minority voices from across the dance music spectrum, each written by a journalist hand-selected by Jaguar herself. And toward the end of the month, expect a very special op-ed from one of the most important voices in music journalism, and writer of Glitter Up the Dark: How Pop Music Broke the Binary, Sasha Geffen.
