Hype Label of the Month: HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS
We join UK dance music icon GIDEÖN in celebrating and amplifying the creative contributions of queer artists in house music with his HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS label.
With a steadfast mission to honor and recognize house music’s indisputable LGBTQIA+, Black, and Latin musical tradition, HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS is a label that amplifies the melodic language of Queer freedom, self-expression, love, and diversity.
The man at the center of this righteous and sensational imprint is the UK’s storied DJ, producer, political activist, and queer dance music icon, GIDEÖN. With a background in music that spans three decades, GIDEÖN has made a name for himself as the co-founder, co-creator, and curator of Glastonbury’s legendary nightlife institution, Block9. In addition to performing regular slots at Berlin’s revered clubbing destinations Panorama Bar, Lab.oratory, and Garten, he also acts as resident DJ and co-booker at one of London’s hottest queer club nights, Adonis.
First emerging in September of 2022 with HOMO-CENTRIC’s debut single “Aaron Carl Lives On,” GIDEÖN has spent the past ten months building up his imprint’s discography with surefire original tracks, featuring collaborators such as Mandel Turner, Ebs, Tobirus Mozelle and Tasty Lopez. The label is a love letter to the LGBTQIA+ founders and champions of house music, paying homage to everyone from Frankie Knuckles to Robert Owens, Patrick Cowley to Larry Levan, Derrick Carter to Honey Dijon, and the list goes on. It’s a label that carries on in the tradition of “the great Queer dynasty of house” and does so with respect, political fortitude, delight, and records that will set any proper dance floor aflame.
We caught up with HOMO-CENTRIC label head GIDEÖN to learn more about his latest release, its manifesto, and some of its most essential tracks.
