Electronic music icon Ali Shirazinia — better known as Dubfire — has announced that he will release his debut solo album, titled EVOLV, on October 14th via his SCI+TEC imprint.
With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, it may come as a surprise to many that Dubfire has yet to release a full-length LP of his own. Yet, despite this, few have achieved the immense level of success that Shirazinia has achieved on dance floors since the early ’90s. From his Grammy Award Winning work with Sharam as Deep Dish to his revealing documentary film Above Ground Level, along with techno and minimal anthems such as “RibCage” and “Emissions,” the Iranian artist’s contributions to the global dance music scene can not be understated.
The sound and concept behind his forthcoming 11-track LP are rooted in the evolution of his groundbreaking HYBRID live show, which he first debuted in 2014. Filled with adept minimalist drum work and brooding atmospherics, EVOLV represents the start of a new chapter in the Dubfire story — an intrepid project brimming with dystopian dance floor energy.
Our first taste of EVOLV launches with the two-tracker Dark Matter / Dust & Gas. The opening tunes set the tone with surly soundscapes, rough percussion, and stripped-back grooves that thoroughly hypnotize. Listen below.
