The Best Drum & Bass on Beatport This Month
We take a look over some of the biggest D&B tracks to hit Beatport in the past month, featuring tracks from the likes of T>I, S.P.Y, Enei & Kasra, and Break.

Kasra & Enei ft. Jakes – King Move [Critical Music]
Enei’s releases consistently rank as some of the most popular on Critical Music, so it’s always an exciting prospect when he links up with Critical founder Kasra on a release. The two first worked together back in 2012 with the soaring “So Real,” and have collaborated a number of times since. But their combined production styles always guarantee results. Taken from their latest Deep Fakes EP, “King Move” sees Kasra and Enei recruit Jakes on microphone duties to lay down bars over their clinically heavy beat.
S.P.Y – Black Flag (VIP) [Hospital Records]
Hospital Records’ sister label Med School sadly announced it was closing its doors late last year, leaving behind a stellar legacy of outside-the-box releases and exciting new talent. As a final send-off to the label, Hospital this month released Graduation, a 23-track compilation featuring new music from some of the artists who shaped Med School across its 13 years. This VIP mix of S.P.Y’s “Black Flag” is a throwback to the early days of Med School, giving a fresh update to the A-side of S.P.Y’s debut release on the label back in 2006.
Ray Keith – Renegade (T>I Minimal VIP) [Dread Recordings]
Remixing a track as influential as Ray Keith’s “Terrorist” is a daunting task. The 1994 original is widely credited with popularising the use of the Reese bass, one of the most instantly recognizable sounds in electronic music. The pressure clearly didn’t get to T>I, though. His remix, which has been the subject of countless ID requests since he started playing it in his sets over two years ago, is a textbook example of how to remix a classic track well, paying homage to Keith’s iconic piano riff and working it seamlessly into a modern D&B weapon.
Think Tonk – What a Ting (L-Side Remix) [V Recordings]
One of the most prolific artists in the V Recordings roster, Brazilian producer L-Side has played an integral part in the label’s output in the last 10 years, with an album, three EPs, and countless more singles and remixes to his name. While Think Tonk’s original bubbles with dancehall-influenced rhythms and classic rave stabs, L-Side’s remix gives “What A Ting” an injection of bass nastiness that has seen DJs like Etherwood, S.P.Y and London Elektricity pick it up for their sets.
Lenzman ft. IAMDDB – In My Mind (Break Remix) [The North Quarter]
Released in 2017 on the Earth Tones EP, the original version of “In My Mind” features Lenzman’s trademark smooth keys, underpinning a silky vocal from Manchester vocalist IAMDDB. It was an inspired combo, which caught IAMDDB on the cusp of gaining her own acclaim as an artist. This new remix from Bristol legend Break, taken from The North Quarter’s new Quarter to Quarter compilation, flips the script for a harder-edged interpretation of the track that still gives IAMDDB’s vocal room to shine.
Subtension – Tom Yum [Flexout Audio]
Since its beginnings in 2011, London’s Flexout Audio label has been building a formidable roster of artists across all flavors of D&B — whether that’s the techy productions of Phentix, Charli Brix’s dark rollers, or woozy halftime from Razat. Taken from Subtension’s first solo EP of 2020 — his Flexout debut — “Tom Yum” is a frantic workout of a track from the Slovak producer, based around one of the most intense beats to cross our radar lately.
Clipz ft. Ms. Dynamite, Ms. Banks, Jaykae – Again [RCA Records]
After putting the Clipz alias on ice for 10 years in favor of his work as Redlight, Bristol’s Hugh Pescod returned to releasing drum & bass in 2019 with a scorching bootleg of Koffee’s “Toast,” and the Brandy-sampling “Down 4.” “Again” is his first single of 2020, a soundsystem-ready stepper featuring bass-heavy, underground sounds with a killer earworm of a hook; a formula that has worked time and again for Pescod both as Redlight and Clipz. Taking cues from classic jungle without relying on throwback tropes, “Again” boasts an all-star lineup, with UK legend Ms. Dynamite on the hook, backed up by verses from Ms. Banks and Jaykae.
Wingz – Lost Moments [Overview Music]
Austrian producer Wingz has been part of the Overview Music family since day one, contributing a track to their first compilation back in 2018, and releasing regularly with them ever since. His deep and minimal style is a perfect fit for the Brighton-based label, who have dropped a seriously impressive string of releases in their short lifespan from the likes of Klinical, Ill Truth, and Talkre. “Lost Moments” is our pick from Wingz’s Modify EP, his second full release with Overview, and has us itching to get back on dancefloor once we’re through lockdown.
