Cora Novoa Releases 'LFOs & Creatures,' her Second EP for Tiga's Turbo Recordings
The Spanish techno producer and researcher returns with a slamming four-tracker for the Montreal imprint.
The Galicia-born Cora Novoa, whose apparently infinite list of occupations includes techno producer, DJ, creative director, researcher, label owner and Ableton Official Trainer, has released LFOs & Creatures, her second EP for Tiga's Turbo Recordings label. Novoa debuted on Turbo with 2021's Two Faces EP, and a characteristically ticklish press sheet from the Montreal label reveals that an artist's second release on the label is "what really makes you part of the family."
LFOs & Creatures, it goes on, "explores the terrifyingly fertile intersection between synthesizers and the unholy fiends of the nighttime world (but thankfully not Count Dracula, a deeply unhappy man)."
Novoa, whose areas of expertise and employment make her one of the few people in the world who can claim to be "working at the intersection of art and technology" without being laughed out of court, has taken no prisoners with LFOs & Creatures. The title track, “Digital Identities” and “Self Control” all go for the jugular, and will likely be troubling peak-time techno sets all summer long. Only lead single "Oracle," the EP closer, provides a respite of a sort, with laid-back breakbeats, mantric vocal samples, and twinkly, slightly spooky keys bringing the release home in atmospheric style.
