Experts Only often finds itself at the center of the dance/electronic scene, and “Freak” is just the latest example. After debuting during John Summit’s mainstage closing set at Ultra Miami, Mesto’s sought-after, bass-driven ID resurfaced in his sets all summer, picking up support from Dom Dolla, Martin Garrix, Zedd, and Alok along the way.

The entrancing floor-filler now lands on Summit’s label, adding momentum to what is already shaping up to be a big weekend for Experts Only. Its eponymous festival is expected to draw 50,000 fans to Randall’s Island in New York for its second edition, running September 19–20. While Mesto isn’t on the bill – which includes Prospa, Korolova, and Subjohnics (Summit and Subtronics), among other tastemakers – the Dutch producer’s presence will still be felt through the inescapable track.

“I feel like the craziest songs usually start outside the studio – at least that’s when inspiration really strikes for me. That was definitely the case with this new one,” says Mesto. “I made the first idea in a hotel room in LA, and it felt like the song already existed in my head: I just had to get it out.”

Later that week, Summit played the tune to thousands at Bayfront Park, formally setting its rise in motion.

For the "Caramelle" producer, “Freak” felt complete when GRAMMY Award-winning singer/songwriter INK – best known for her work on Beyoncé's COWBOY CARTER and RENAISSANCE, as well as her co-writing credit on Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” – wrote its topline.

“I’m super stoked and honoured it’s finally coming out on Experts Only – honestly one of my favourite labels in the game right now,” says Mesto.
