Madeon Remixes Ninajirachi’s "iPod Touch" for His First Official Remix in 14 Years

Madeon has remixed Ninajirachi’s “iPod Touch,” marking his first official remix since 2012.

Out now via NLV Records, the French producer’s take blows up the original with huge, bright synths while adding a new verse about the music that shaped him. It turns Ninajirachi’s ode to teenage discovery into a conversation between two generations.

Ninajirachi says she held off on an “iPod Touch” remix until she could work with “someone whose music I was writing about in the song.” She first heard Madeon in Year 7, playing behind a YouTube tie-dye denim shorts tutorial. “Everything made sense when I heard his verse,” she adds. “He went through the same revelation a generation before I did.”

The track also ended Madeon’s 14-year break from official remixes. “‘iPod touch’ is one of my favorite dance tracks in recent memory,” he says, adding that learning his early music had inspired it left him “incredibly touched.”

Madeon first teased the pairing at Coachella, folding “iPod Touch” into his own “Technicolor,” before previewing the finished remix at New York’s Zedd in the Park.

The release arrives just over a year after Ninajirachi’s acclaimed debut album I Love My Computer and follows “WannaCry,” her recent collaboration with Porter Robinson. The track shot to No. 10 on Beatport’s overall chart while reaching No. 1 on Hype.

Robinson celebrated on social media: “‘WannaCry’ putting electro house back in the Beatport Top 10 after all these years,” before recalling that he scored his first Beatport No. 1 at 18 with “Say My Name.”

For NLV Records founder Nina Las Vegas, the collaboration carried some extra weight. She told Beatportal:

It’s been so exciting (and almost emotional) watching this one come together. Porter was such an important artist to Nina growing up – literally, he was her first concert – so seeing them make something that feels so genuinely like both of them is a really special full-circle moment. Having known them both for so long makes it even more meaningful for me to see it all come together.

Taken together, the two releases find Ninajirachi living out the kind of childhood fantasy that first drew her to electronic music – working with her dream collaborators while casting their shared early-2010s sound in a fresh light.
