Behind The Label: Kitsuné Musique

Kitsuné’s power has always been bigger than music or fashion alone, making curation feel like a world you could hear, wear, and step inside.

Founded in Paris in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, Kitsuné Musique was built as a meeting point between music, fashion, design, nightlife, and culture, with one foot in Paris and the other in Tokyo. Loaëc brought sharp music instincts and entrepreneurial grit from his time around Daft Punk. Kuroki, an architect and creative director, gave the project its clean, fox-stamped visual identity.

Kitsuné Musique’s catalog moves through electro-clash, nu-disco, house, indie rock, and pop with a restless ear for what is about to break, sniffing out sharp new sounds before they become obvious. The point was always discovery, and Kitsuné made that instinct feel stylish, magnetic, and hot to the touch. 

The Kitsuné Maison compilations became its calling card, framing a generation of restless club-adjacent music with Digitalism, Boys Noize, Hot Chip, Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix, La Roux, Cut Copy, Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax, A-Trak, Parcels, and more.

Almost 25 years on, that pulse continues through recent releases from the likes of Perel, Baron, Sama, Andhim, Leo Pol, Chambord, and more. The brand may have gone global, but the music still sets the tempo.

What started with records, parties, DJ sets, and initial T-shirt drops sold at club nights eventually grew into something much larger: Maison Kitsuné, a global fashion name with stores, cafés, collaborations, and a visual language recognizable far beyond club culture. But music was never some afterthought the brand outgrew. It remains part of the wiring. Kitsuné’s taste in sound helped define the taste of the whole operation and ecosystem, and its sound is still making club systems boom across the globe.
