Two original paintings commissioned for Tomorrowland’s 21st edition were stolen during the Belgian festival’s opening weekend, prompting the festival to put out an appeal for their return. One of the pieces, “Love,” has since been recovered, but the other – “Desire” – remains missing.

The works, pictured below, were part of a six-piece collection commissioned for this year’s Consciencia theme and displayed inside the Tomorrowland Restaurant. Each painting represents one of the six universal emotions embodied by the theme: love, desire, wonder, anger, joy, and sadness. “Wonder,” “Anger,” “Joy,” and “Sadness” remain on display.

According to the Belgian news outlet Het Nieuwsblad, festival organizers believe the pair was stolen on July 19 – the final day of Weekend 1 – despite security measures in the area. After Tomorrowland appealed for the return of both paintings on July 21, a couple surrendered “Love” to the Lab of Tomorrow in Boom, per Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen.

“A very honest couple came by with the Love artwork,” she said. “We appreciate that enormously.”

"It is a compliment that the artworks are appreciated, but it would be nice if the Consciencia paintings could shine for festival-goers a little longer during the second weekend," she added.

As Tomorrowland awaits further information about "Desire," its team will rehang "Love" inside the restaurant, taking additional steps to ensure the collection is "secured better" ahead of Weekend 2.

Taking place July 24–26, Weekend 2 follows an eventful opening weekend marked by a ban on fireworks amid persistent heat and drought conditions, a banner teasing Tomorrowland's expansion to Las Vegas in 2027, a surprise Mainstage set from Charlotte de Witte, and Calvin Harris' Mainstage debut in Belgium – his first performance for the Tomorrowland brand since TomorrowWorld in 2013.
