Random Factor Reimagines Rodrigo Diaz’s ‘Never Dead’ for a New Generation

Secret Weapon Records continues its mission of reconnecting its catalogue with the present as Rodrigo Diaz’s ‘Never Dead’ returns in a striking new interpretation by Carl Finlow under his legendary Random Factor alias. Originally released in 2010, the track now finds new life through one of electronic music’s most respected innovators, opening an exciting new chapter for a Secret Weapon classic.

Rodrigo Diaz has long been a central figure in Argentina’s underground electronic scene. Hailing from Mar del Plata, he has built a distinctive sound rooted in hypnotic minimalism and deep techno, earning releases on labels including Spinne Records, Plusquam Division, Bosphorus Underground, and Secret Weapon Records. ‘Never Dead’ remains one of the defining records from that period, its understated groove and timeless atmosphere making it a natural choice for rediscovery.

For the remix, Secret Weapon turns to an artist whose influence on electronic music spans more than three decades. Carl Finlow is widely recognised as one of electro’s true pioneers, with over 430 solo tracks released on vinyl, 17 studio albums, and an extraordinary catalogue spanning labels such as Warp, Playhouse, CPU, Satamile, and Science Cult. As co-founder of the legendary UK label 2020 Vision, and through aliases including Random Factor, Silicon Scally, and Voice Stealer, Finlow has continuously pushed the boundaries of electro and techno while remixing artists ranging from Andrew Weatherall and Hardfloor to Luke Slater and Wolfgang Flür of Kraftwerk.

His Random Factor interpretation of ‘Never Dead’ transforms the original into a rich, forward-looking electro journey. While retaining Rodrigo Diaz’s unmistakable bass progression, Finlow surrounds it with expansive chords, shimmering synth work, and crisp machine grooves that reflect his unmistakable production style. The result is both cinematic and deeply functional, respecting the essence of the original while confidently moving it into new territory.

The release also arrives during a particularly exciting period for Finlow.
