Roland Leesker Reimagines Inner City’s House Classic ‘Pennies From Heaven’

More than three decades after its original release, the classic returns with a contemporary interpretation that honours its legacy while introducing it to a new generation of dancefloors.

Originally featured on Inner City’s acclaimed 1992 album ‘Praise’, ‘Pennies From Heaven’ became one of the defining records of the group’s catalogue. Together with timeless releases such as ‘Big Fun’ and ‘Good Life’, the track helped establish Inner City as one of the most influential acts to emerge from Detroit, bringing house music to audiences around the world through its unmistakable combination of soulful vocals and forward-thinking production.

For this new version, Roland Leesker strips the track back to its essential elements before rebuilding it into a powerful, club-ready house record. Driven by classic drum machine grooves and a steady sense of momentum, his remix gradually reveals the original’s iconic vocal before returning to a rolling rhythm designed for today’s dancefloors.

Reflecting on the project, Leesker explains: “Inner City’s 1992 album ‘Praise’ is one of my all-time favourites, and it’s a true honour to remix ‘Pennies From Heaven’. I’ve always had a strong connection to the record, and it was important to me to pay homage to it while remaining true to the spirit of the original throughout the process.”
