Tomorrowland Not Permitted to Use Fireworks and Other Pyrotechnics During Weekend 1 Due to Elevated Fire Risk

Tomorrowland will not be permitted to use fireworks and other pyrotechnics during Weekend 1 due to elevated fire risk, according to Het Laatste Nieuws. 

The decision was made by the mayors of the Belgian municipalities of Boom and Rumst, Jeroen Baert and Jurgen Callaerts, in collaboration with Antwerp Provincial Governor Cathy Berx, following consultation with the fire department amid persistent heat and drought conditions in the area. Authorities have issued a Code Orange, indicating increased wildfire danger. 

"We are also very sorry that we had to learn this through the media. And that there has been no consultation with us as an organization, and with the experts who are responsible for the fireworks at our festival," Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said.

Drones, Wilmsen added, are not a viable alternative due to the festival's proximity to the Antwerp International Airport.

The temporary ban currently applies only to Tomorrowland’s opening weekend and covers the festival grounds in Boom and its DreamVille campsite in Rumst. It follows the Belgian news source's recent report indicating that an accidental ethanol spill may have caused last year's devastating mainstage fire. 

In May 2026, Tomorrowland was cleared to move forward with its 21st edition in Boom, Belgium after a post-fire safety review conducted by WEAREONE.world, the municipalities of Boom and Rumst, and the Governor of the Province of Antwerp concluded that its “objective risk profile” was confirmed to be low to moderate, requiring no “fundamental structural changes.” A final meeting with security services is scheduled for the morning of July 16.
