Underground Catharsis: Ben C & Kalsx Unveil Their Heavyweight Peak-Time Weapon
The art of effective club production often relies on knowing when to restrain complexity in favor of raw, physical impact.
In their latest solo single, "Secret Sauce," production duo Ben C & Kalsx masterfully strike this balance. They deliver a dark, high energy Melodic Techno track engineered specifically for the stage. Created and mastered in just a few days, the track was rushed to completion so it could serve as a powerful closing track during their recent performance at Petit Bain in Paris.
The sonic identity of the release draws from two distinct eras. It merges the captivating, looping melodies of early 2010s minimal with the aggressive, faster tempos of modern techno. To achieve this heavy sound, the duo loaded Ableton Live with synthesis powerhouses Diva and Serum, pushing the tracks into saturated, moody territories.
"The track is above all made for the stage. It must therefore be dynamic, minimal, and evocative," the artists explain, noting that restricting their compositional complexity was their greatest creative challenge.
The undeniable heart of the track lies in its driving low end, which features a tightly engineered relationship between a Kick 2 plugin and deep bass modulations. "We are quite proud of the kick-bass, which answers and complements each other perfectly," the duo states. With its clever use of melodic scales containing subtle Arabic accents, "Secret Sauce" acts as a rhythmic invitation to dance until 6 AM. It stands as a celebratory milestone that captures a unique musical vision within the electronic scene.
