Face2Face: Sam Divine on Defected, Sobriety, 555, and Finding Her Second Wind

Face2 Face Sam Divine 1920x1080 V2

Face2Face is an interview series spotlighting artists, labels, promoters, and key voices across the global electronic community. Each session goes beyond the headlines, unpacking creative process, cultural impact, industry realities, and the ideas shaping dance music’s future.

In this edition of Face2Face, Beatport’s head of curation Raphael Pujol (aka The Checkup) sits down with Sam Divine, the UK DJ, producer, label head, and longtime house music force whose story runs from muddy southwest free parties to some of the biggest dance floors in the world.

Divine gets into the real work behind the story: free parties in the southwest, learning to DJ in a shed, grafting in record shops, selling vinyl over the phone, then clawing her way to Ibiza, Defected, and a career that’s now more than two decades deep. She doesn’t dress up the darker parts either, speaking plainly about burnout, addiction, sobriety, and how getting clean has changed the way she tours, works, and protects herself. Now, with her 555 label giving her room to release what she wants, back new artists, and build something on her own terms, Divine sounds fired up again, not nostalgic.
