MAYETRIX Makes his Debut on bitbird with HOLD ME CLOSE 2 U
Meet MAYETRIX: the Australian producer whose SoundCloud flips reached Coachella before his first original track.

MAYETRIX makes his debut on bitbird with HOLD ME CLOSE 2 U, his first original release. Behind the name is Josh Sytema, an Australian producer, working at the intersection of hypertrap, dubstep, and Y2K-influenced bass music: distorted textures, melodic production, club-ready but still emotional.
Without a label or playlist support, MAYETRIX built his following entirely through SoundCloud remixes and unofficial flips — catching the attention of artists like San Holo, Hamdi, and Nikita, the Wicked along the way. In seven months, he grew a dedicated community of fans, with one of his flips being played out at Coachella 2026. For a project with no original music yet, that's a remarkable start. Now, HOLD ME CLOSE 2 U marks the moment the project steps out from behind the remixes.
The track started with a sample pack. MAYETRIX followed where the sounds led, and ended up somewhere more intimate than his usual work. "I used a contrast of soft synths and distorted basses, which created a balance of vulnerability and intensity," he says. "It allowed me to step away from my usual instinct of making everything feel huge and polished, and instead focus on something more raw, close, and emotionally fragile".
HOLD ME CLOSE 2 U is about human connection — specifically, how easy it is to take the people closest to you for granted, and how hard it can be to say so. The production carries tension throughout: warmth and distortion pressing against each other, neither cancelling the other out.
The bitbird signing puts MAYETRIX alongside artists like DROELOE, Pauline Herr, and Babsy. on a roster built around the point where bass music and emotional songwriting meet. HOLD ME CLOSE 2 U fits there from the first bar.
