Philipp Jung, the German DJ, producer, label founder, and co-founder of Get Physical Music, has passed away. At this time, a cause of death has not been disclosed.
A key figure in underground dance music, Jung helped shape the sound and identity of modern house through his work as one half of M.A.N.D.Y. alongside longtime creative partner Patrick Bodmer. Together, the duo became known for a deep, sleek, and highly musical approach to club production, helping define a strain of 2000s house that was refined, emotional, and firmly built for the dance floor.
In 2002, Jung co-founded Get Physical Music with Bodmer, DJ T., and Booka Shade. The Berlin label quickly became one of the most influential imprints of its era, releasing music that connected house, techno, electro, and deeper club sounds with a distinct sense of style and atmosphere. In 2005, Get Physical was named Label of the Year by DJ Mag, and over the past 24 years, it has continued to build a vast catalogue spanning thousands of tracks and hundreds of releases.
M.A.N.D.Y.’s collaboration with Booka Shade, “Body Language,” remains one of the label’s defining records and a major moment in Get Physical’s global rise. The track helped carry the label’s sound to a wider audience and later became closely tied to the long-running Body Language compilation series.
Beyond M.A.N.D.Y., Jung’s work extended across Get Physical, Kindisch, METAPHYSICAL, and a wide range of solo and collaborative projects, including Beauty & the Beast, Formerly, and Doormen on Vacation. Just last month, he continued to revisit the Get Physical catalogue through projects such as Rewind Forward Vol. 1, reflecting on the label’s history while helping carry its story forward.
Jung’s impact can be felt across more than two decades of club culture, from the records he helped create to the labels, artists, and dance floors he helped shape. His passing marks a significant loss for the global electronic music community.
Beatportal sends our deepest condolences to Jung’s family, the Get Physical Music team, his friends, and the many dance music lovers whose lives were touched by his work.
RIP Philipp Jung 🕊
