Queer Dubstep Label Bass n Babes Records Releases EP By Shortcvke
Shadow of the Wisp is out now!
Bass n Babes Records is the premier label for all things queer and femme bass music. After a successful launch last year, Bass n Babes Records is already making waves this year with new releases. Bass n Babes Records is proud to release its first EP: “Shadow of the Wisp” by shortcvke, out on April 30, 2026.
“Shadow of the Wisp” touches on themes of exploration, spirituality and connection with nature. Inspired by the video game Ori and the Blind Forest, this EP traces a descent through a fading forest where light weakens and shadow takes hold. Each track captures a different stage of that shift from stillness, to confrontation, to submersion. And even in the dark, something fragile remains, still burning beneath it all, fighting to restore what was lost.
The debut single from the EP, “Kuro,” is a deep dubstep track inspired by the crossover of nature and low frequency sound design. “Kuro” represents the moment the balance breaks in the forest. What once was alive begins to twist under pressure, as shadows consume the light. Heavy, tense, and unforgiving, this track embodies the presence of something closing in, a feeling none of us can avoid. Influenced by artists like Slang Dogs and Zen Selekta, who build worlds within each track, “Kuro” is reminiscent of the uncertainty of adventures, full of mystery and excitement for new discoveries.
Boston native living in San Diego shortcvke gets the dance floor moving with carefully selected beats. Her sets are a journey of 140, experimental bass, hip hop and other genres of bass music; weaving dark undertones with booty shaking rhythms that transport listeners into a trance-inducing journey.
Shortcvke’s has many self released tracks including “Preroll (Qveen Herby flip)” that has surpassed 10K Streams. She has also released tracks with labels such as Bass N Babes, The Delirium Project, Citrus Grove Collective, & Lost & Found Beings. Her work also includes a mix series titled “eat cvke” as well as other DJ mixes through collectives such as Eternal Drip and Rewind 140.
Shortcvke has showcased her DJ sets sharing the stage with artists such as The Widdler, Pushloop, Onhell, Zen Selekta, Chef Boyarbeatz, Jordnmoody, Antennae, Wreckno, StarMonster,and Slang Dogs. She is joining Bass n Babes Records for their takeover at The Untz Festival on May 8-10 in Browns Valley, CA.
