Rene Wise returns with Johnson’s Theme, a tightly wound four-tracker o0n Dekmantel’s revered UFO series, and it’s exactly the kind of deep, locked-in techno we’ve come to expect from the Brighton-born artist.

The EP comes off the back of two stellar singles from the artist this year – "Anjos" and "Black Hawk" – landing with precision, control and a hypnotic touch. The title track threads in a hazy, melodic loop that slowly pulls you under, while “Granite Skin” leans cavernous, riding a deep, rolling groove that feels built for long stretches in the mix. “Flow” loosens things up with a more airy, drifting energy before “Kanga” tightens the screws with a magnetic tapestry of synth-lines and restless momentum. Listen below.

It’s a sound rooted in movement. With a background shaped by percussion and a deep understanding of how sound interacts with the body, Wise continues to craft techno that feels physical as much as it does cerebral.

Heads-down techno that does exactly what it needs to do.

Rene Wise's Johnson's Theme EP is out now via Dekmantel.
