Q: Hi Greta, you were on Beatport’s On Our Radar last year. It’s great to see how your profile has grown since then. How has the past year been for you?

A: First of all, it’s been amazing to have the support of Beatport, and it was an honour to be selected for On Our Radar by their team. Over the past year, the progress I’ve been making in the studio—learning new things, experimenting with new sounds, and allowing myself to be weirder than ever—really reflects how much my confidence has grown. It’s also been a year of big personal milestones: releasing my debut album, launching my own label, playing some incredible shows, and releasing music on one of my favourite labels, Kompakt.

Q: Your debut album IBZALIEN, on Get Physical, touches on your life in Ibiza. What’s it like being there over winter, and how does it influence your creative process?

A: Winter is definitely when I feel most creative. The island becomes incredibly quiet, and it feels as though you have it all to yourself. Inspiration comes from different places—sometimes it’s going out to a club and being inspired by a track on the system, other times it’s having an entire beach to yourself in winter, listening to José Padilla in peace and quiet. All of this feeds into my production. As we edge closer to summer, my mindset naturally shifts towards packed dancefloors, and my music starts leaning more towards what I imagine working in a club environment.

Q: Your latest release, Operator Baby, is a delicious, catchy, and beautifully produced single. Can you tell us more about it?

A: It’s always hard to explain how and why I make tracks like this. It’s not really dancefloor focused—it’s more a track I imagine people cruising to in their cars. That said, I played it at HÖR and the chat went crazy for it, and I’ve also sent it out to some of my favourite DJs, who have all come back with really positive feedback. So we’ll see—whether it ends up being played in clubs or in cars, I’m just happy to be putting it out into the world.

Q: We’re excited about the rebirth of Secret Weapon Records with Get Physical. What can you tell us about the direction of the label?

A: After releasing multiple EPs, compilations, and then the album, it felt like a natural progression for Get Physical and me to build something even bigger together, like launching a label. I love the relationship I’ve developed with the team over the past few years, and I’m really looking forward to fully committing to the project—shaping its sound and inviting some of my favourite producers to contribute.

With such a strong back catalogue, thanks to founder Mark Quaill, we’re relaunching this year with fresh remixers alongside original material. I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but if you’ve listened to my sets or seen me play, you can expect to hear some of the producers I strongly support featured on the label.

Q: Congratulations on your recent release Who’s Here? on Kompakt. We also hear you’ll be playing the Kompakt party at Sónar. Have you always been a fan of the label, and how does it feel to be working with such an iconic imprint?
Who isn’t a fan of Kompakt?

A: It feels incredible to be part of their world. They’re one of the most eclectic, weird, and off the wall labels out there. They even described my music by saying, “Her sound is hard to pinpoint, which is an attribute we’re traditionally attracted to,” which I absolutely loved.

The OFF Sónar party is going to be a real moment. The line up includes some of my absolute favourites—DJ Koze, Michael Mayer, Rex the Dog, and more. I really feel like I’ll be able to express myself properly while warming up the dancefloor for them. My good mate Raxon is also playing after me, and he’s one of my favourite artists right now.

Q: We’ve heard great things about your DJ sets. Where can our readers catch you this summer?

A: That’s great to hear—thank you! I’m very lucky to have some amazing shows coming up.

As mentioned, the Kompakt Showcase at OFF Sónar will be huge. I’ll also be playing for BRUNCH as part of their festival in Barcelona, and in August I’m heading to a beach party to make my Portugal debut on the island of Madeira. Closer to home, on 22 April, I’ll be opening IMS at Akasha alongside 2ManyDJs, which is going to be massive. And for anyone who can’t make it to those, my next guest mix for Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records show will be out soon.
