Mexican producer, sound designer, and experimental electronic artist Andrés Pereda (aka Avant-Garde Institute) releases his debut mini-album, Momentum. The six-track collection blends IDM, ambient, dub techno, and UK bass, anchored by acid-laced, hypnotic techno. At its core, the project delivers a focused statement of renewal, resilience, and a deeply personal artistic vision.
The three-year project emerged from lucid dreams that evolved into sonic ideas, shaped further by cinematic inspiration and experiences of love, loss, and emotional flux. Pereda describes the album as a space where memory, intuition, and imagination are in constant dialogue, resulting in a dreamlike, immersive journey. His philosophy pushes beyond the idea of the dance floor as pure escapism, embracing tension, melancholy, and risk through textured, rhythmically driven compositions. He found a fitting home for Momentum via DSCNDNTE after connecting with the label during a Monterrey tour in May 2025.
Avant-Garde Institute marks an evolution from Pereda’s earlier alias, Viral Effect, which launched in 2018 with a focus on lo-fi house and UK garage. The shift signals a more defined, conceptual direction. Momentum stands as a love letter to electronic music, reflecting his growth across studio work, DJing, and sound design, shaped as much by failure as success.
Within Mexico City’s competitive scene, Pereda carved out space by building a following on TikTok starting in 2020, using his background in storytelling and cultural journalism to spotlight experimental electronic music. This momentum has led to performances across Mexico and internationally, including The Lot Radio in New York. Looking ahead, he has launched his own label, Resonantum, and continues to expand his presence, including work as a Beatport brand ambassador in Latin America. Listen below.
