Dubstep mainstay Commodo returns with Deep Harbour, linking up with jazz polymath Alfa Mist for a quietly striking release on Black Acre, marking the label’s 100th outing. It’s a fluid crossover that reshapes dubstep’s skeletal framework through jazz sensibilities and live-feeling instrumentation.

Across the four tracks, the EP moves with intention. The title cut leans into a warmer, more melodic lane, nodding to the glow of late-2000s post-dubstep with rich keys, classic low-end movement, and a patient, unfussy groove. The ‘Misty Mix’ flips the mood entirely, sinking into a darker, more abstract space where dissonance and tension take the lead.

On the B-side, Manchester-based DJ/producer Anz returns in style with two heady, sharply contrasted reworks – her first new music since 2023’s “Clearly Rushing” on Hessle Audio. The ‘Safe Place Mix’ opens things up with a lighter, more introspective touch, while the ‘Defensive Mix’ tightens the screws and goes straight for the system, dialing up the subs with a tougher, more direct edge that’s already gaining traction, including a BBC Radio 1 Track of the Week nod.
