With support from tastemakers like Chris Lake, Michael Bibi, MPH, and Ben Sterling, Dean Turnley’s “Actin’ Tough” has almost unanimously earned its status as a crowd pleaser. And just like any track that reliably creates a moment on the floor, this one works just as well in the club circuit as it does on festival grounds. Naturally, the tea leaves spell chart dominance for the Melbourne producer’s white-hot single, made on 404 sampler just three months ago.

“It’s been crazy watching the responses as the track was getting its first spins,” says Turnley.

Since hurdling out of Melbourne’s dance/electronic scene, thanks to early championing from Turnley and his close collaborators Not Without Friends (Jordan Brando, William Kiss, and Luke Alessi), “Actin’ Tough” has quickly swelled into one of the year’s most in-demand records. That’s no coincidence – underpinning the cheeky cut’s 90s-inspired spoken-word vocal sass and rolling beat is Turnley’s decade of experience in Detroit and Chicago house textures. As a co-founder of Thailand’s Sundancer festival, clearly, Turnley knows what works overtime on floors, and as proof, “Actin’ Tough” hasn’t stopped spinning since it caught fire at the start of the year.
