Blakkat Delivers Late-Night Pressure with ‘Hang On Tight’ EP

Veteran DJ/producer Mark “Blakkat” Bell opens his 2026 account with Hang On Tight, a five-track EP landing via Something Local with the authority of someone who’s been wiring dance floors for decades. The award-winning producer and Shaboom Records founder has long balanced underground credibility with cross-genre reach, from Mercury Prize-winning work with M People to remixes for New Order and A Tribe Called Quest, plus collaborations alongside Marshall Jefferson and David Morales.

Following a run of 2025 remixes and DIRTYBIRD link-ups, the new EP doubles down on club functionality. “Bubbles” glints with blipped-out bliss, while “Delicious” moves with toothsome pace and gliding atmosphere. The title cut snaps forward on a wave of brazen claps and techno-like tension, and “Deaf Beat” closes the sequence with a street-wise rumble and saunter that's cool to its core and keeps things grounded.
