Leo Janeiro Turns 30 Years of Dance Floor Experience into a Mature and Vibrant Debut Album, 'Tempo'

With over two decades in electronic music, Leo Janeiro has mastered the art of evolving with time – the very element that shapes him, renews his vision, and sparks new forms of expression. In his debut album “Tempo,” Leo revisits this relationship in a symbolic way, translating his passion for house music and its many shades into sound. The album also celebrates club culture and its deep connections with jazz, soul, and Brazilian music. The result is a work that unites his entire musical background and will be released through his own label Cocada Music on December 5.

With eight tracks, Tempo unfolds as a sonic mosaic reflecting Leo Janeiro’s journey and artistic restlessness. It travels through the roots of house music - focusing on its deep and jazzy facets - while exploring rhythmic contrasts and nuances. There are hints of dub, reggae, and slow dance on the title track “Tempo,” and echoes of baile funk in “Som na Caixa.” Between softer listening moments and more intense club cuts like “Redentor,” the album reveals the artist’s versatility and creative range, moving through moods and references that fit both on and off the dance floor.

To bring such sonic diversity to life, Leo invited artists from a wide range of musical backgrounds. Of the eight tracks on “Tempo”, six are collaborations: from the Brazilian rapper Jhayam, to the pioneering flutist and beatboxer Nathan “Flutebox” Lee; from Detroit’s Jon Dixon, to the inventive producer Pedro Zopelar; from the soulful voice of Mona Lee, to the irresistibly danceable duo From House to Disco, from São Paulo. Each collaboration contributes to a generational dialogue that reflects Leo’s expansive journey.

Each track carries a layer of what Leo has built and reinvented over the years - from his deep-rooted identity in house, Brazilian groove, and the Rio breeze, to his openness to new sounds, collaborations, and textures. The result is an album that breathes maturity, lightness, and purpose as he reaffirms his role as a bridge between generations and styles. A DJ, curator, and producer with three decades of experience, he demonstrates not only technical mastery but also a refined sensitivity for what truly matters: emotion.
