John Summit dropped several IDs during his sets at the first-ever Experts Only Festival New York, but one would go on to become one of the weekend’s most-talked-about moments: Devault’s “Feels Like Us.”

“I woke up to so many videos of people asking for the ID he played, and the internet buzz was something I haven’t experienced before,” he tells Beatportal. “I knew right then something wild was happening around this song.”

Devault’s music has long facilitated the collision of futuristic and nostalgic sounds in dark, febrile frameworks, but “Feels Like Us” signals his stride into an increasingly club-forward offshoot of his sound. Built around a hook mired in memory – “The touch/the dust/the sex/the way/the rain/kisses my neck/it feels like us” – and a seductive, smoldering melody inspired by “nostalgia from old melodic/trance songs,” the track buries the dart in the heart of Devault’s conceptual bullseye, delivering on his vision of creating “something cinematic and sexy.”

In an exclusive Q&A with Beatportal, the producer unpacks why his Experts Only debut has hit so hard and what comes next.

“Feels Like Us” is out now. Buy it on Beatport, and read on below.

Experts Only called "Feels Like Us" "the song everyone's been asking for," and indeed it is! When you made it, did you have a sense that it would connect with listeners as much as it has?

I always knew the song at its core was something special, but I honestly had no idea it would connect as much as it has. I always just have the goal to make something that makes me excited as an artist and a music lover, and the reaction from fans and peers has been a cherry on top.

Was there a specific moment when it hit you that this track was going to be big?

It definitely was when John Summit played the song for the first time at his festival in New York. I woke up to so many videos of people asking for the ID he played, and the internet buzz was something I haven’t experienced before. I knew right then something wild was happening around this song.

From your perspective, what about this song has made it resonate so deeply?

It feels cliché to say this, but its feeling is so tangible that I think that’s why it’s resonating with everyone. The lyrics and instrumental are in perfect sequence, and even though the lyrical story is broad, I think many people can relate to moments in life that can immediately trigger a memory with a partner, friend, etc.

How does "Feels Like Us" reflect the evolution of your sound and where it stands now?

The goal this year for me was to completely rewire my brain and approach to dance music and make things that directly fit in a club atmosphere. I’ve battled with that my whole career, where some things I make I absolutely love, but sometimes aren’t a fit in my shows, maybe better suited for a night drive or the bedroom.

At the end of the day, I’m a dance artist, so my goal this year was to put the blinkers on and center in on “Devault Club Music." Months and months of that approach led to a record like “Feels Like Us” that is both cinematic and sexy like my OG approach, but meant for the dance floor. I feel so confident in this sonic world and am going to stay here for a bit.

What do you have planned for the rest of the year – is there anything you'd like to plug?

I’m really excited about all the shows coming to end the year and begin 2026. I’m doing some support shows for the legends Chris Lake and DJ Snake and doing a headline club run at the start of 2026, along with some very special festival announcements. Also be on the lookout for some incoming remixes that have finally cleared.
