Andy Butler's Hercules & Love Affair project is back and kicking down the door to a brand-new club-mode era with their fiery new single, “Someone Else Is Calling.” The track leads their upcoming EP of the same name, landing December 12 on fast-rising LA label Stratasonic – and it’s easily the most dance-floor-hungry H&LA we’ve heard in years.
After the dark, cinematic world of In Amber, Andy Butler swings hard in the opposite direction, teaming up with London acid renegade Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London / Decius) to craft a track that feels sweaty, urgent, and terrifically unpolished. Icelandic artist Hips & Lips (Elín Ey) rides the groove with a vocal that channels that perfect zone between Grace Jones attitude and Alison Moyet emotion – equal parts bite and heartbreak. Listen below.
The single will also feature a stunning video by Tatsumi Milori – a vivid love letter to Mexico City’s queer party ecosystem, capturing the ecstatic, communal spirit that first drew Butler back to club culture.
"Over the years I have been tremendously blessed to work with so many talented inspiring people – and Elín Ey of Hips & Lips has been an incredible gift in my life," Butler writes in an Instagram post. "The song is coproduced by a guy I love and admire and was so honoured to be in studio with – Quinn Whaley. Basically I feel love today and gratitude. It’s amazing - music connects people - and can create family! What a wonder."
Someone Else Is Calling arrives in full on December 12 via StrataSonic, with more collaborations from Butler, Elín Ey, and Whalley set to follow.
