The Gqom King is back. South African powerhouse DJ Lag comes through swinging with his most charged-up project yet, Southside – out on November 14 via Black Major x Ice Drop. After lighting up the world with tracks like “GQTech” with Ape Drums and “Woza,” Lag followed up with the mixtape’s third single, “WaWaWa” featuring DJknator and Thobeka – a straight-up club earworm packed with fire vocals and exuberant energy.
Following the success of his debut Meeting With The King — which put Gqom on the global stage — and last year’s bold THE REBELLION LP, Lag pushes things even further. Southside taps into his Durban roots while blending Afro-Tech, 3-Step, and Amapiano heat. Across 12 tracks, he links up with DJ Maphorisa, Vigro Deep, Sir Trill, Ape Drums, and more, proving once again that he’s got one foot in the underground and the other in the global spotlight.
“Southside celebrates where I’m from while showing where the sound is going,” Lag says. “It’s for everyone who’s been riding with me – and everyone just catching on.”
