Louie Vega’s surefire imprint Vega Records is back with another heater – “Feelin’ Good Tonight” from NYC collective Funki Cadets, featuring the inimitable Willy Soul. A true figure in Brooklyn’s dance and roller-skating scenes, Willy brings his trademark spoken-word flow over a bass-heavy, percussive groove that oozes deep house soul.
The track is all smoky chords and nocturnal rhythms – the kind of tune that sneaks up on you towards the end of the night. There’s also an Instrumental Mix that strips it down to pure rhythm and vibe, making it an excellent mixing tool for those late night sessions. Listen below.
Curated by Louie Vega, the Funki Cadets crew keep proving they’re tapped into the real spirit of house music. “Funki Cadets is about the new kids on the block,” Vega tells Beatportal.
Their next record, “Take It” – dropping November 14 – features soul singer Keith Thompson and leans into Afro-jazz territory with powerful, message-driven vocals that hit just as hard as the groove itself.
“Feelin’ Good Tonight” is out now via Vega Records – another standout from Vega’s ever-vital house family.
