Behind The Label: Classic
From London to Chicago and back again, Classic Music Company has spent 30 years shaping house music history – built on friendship, fearlessness, and pure groove.

What started in 1995 as a bold idea between London’s Luke Solomon and Chicago house hero Derrick Carter has become one of the most iconic imprints in dance music history. This year, Classic (also known as Music Company) celebrates 30 years of pushing house culture forward – a story of friendship, risk, reinvention, and pure dance floor spirit.
Born from the transatlantic energy between Chicago and London, Classic became a hub for raw, soulful, and eccentric house music. Through the years, it’s hosted timeless releases from DJ Sneak, Iz & Diz, Freeform Five, Isolée, Honey Dijon, Eli Escobar, Soul Clap, Mike Dunn, and Oliver Dollar – a true who’s who of house royalty.
From its wild 100-to-zero catalog countdown to its near collapse in the digital era and eventual rebirth under Defected Records, Classic’s journey mirrors the evolution of club culture itself: chaotic, emotional, and unstoppable.
Still guided by Solomon’s sharp ear and uncompromising vision, the label continues to champion the next generation of house artists while honoring its roots. Three decades in, Classic remains exactly what its founders set out to build – a home for music made with heart, humor, and soul.
We go behind the label to take a closer look at Classic's evolution and its storied dance floor legacy. Watch below:
