Grimes and Sub Focus

The road to Sub Focus’ fourth solo studio album is full of twists and turns that grow headier with each release. Cue “Entwined” with Grimes, the latest preview from Contact, set to land November 21 via Casablanca Records.

The taut dance floor doozy bursts with both energy and synergy, intermingling the English producer and Canadian songstress’ experimental sensibilities with a seamlessness that plays fluidly and feels destined.

“I literally could not be more hyped on Sub Focus. Dance music has felt bizarrely sterile and increasingly so over time,” Grimes gushed on X in July. “Working on some stuff for his [Sub Focus’] record and it's literally hitting like the autistic sci fi shit in all the right places like it rly feels like cinematic, like I'm right in Neuromancer. But also it's genuinely euphoric. It has been so long since I've felt euphoric about dance music.”

Last month, the collaborators debuted “Entwined” live at Sub Focus’ sold-out “Circular Sound” show at The Shrine in Los Angeles. Listen to it now, below.

“Entwined” adds to a series of pumped-up pre-Contact singles, including “Push The Tempo” featuring Katy B, “On & On” with bbyclose, “Original Don” alongside Fireboy DML and IRAH, “Go Back” with John Summit, and “Wildfire.” The 14-track project puts an exclamation mark on what has been a banner year for Sub Focus, between sold-out shows at venues such as Alexandra Palace, his largest Glastonbury Festival set yet, and a history-making moment at Red Rocks Amphitheater at the end of October, where he and his WORSHIP mates, Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991, became the first drum & bass act to headline and sell out Colorado’s live music mecca.

"Entwined" is out now via Positiva. Buy it on Beatport.
