Beatport x Elijah: Curating Playlists is a Form of DJing
We’re back with another conversation about DJing and electronic music culture. This time, Elijah’s joined by London-based artist SICARIA.

It’s been a few inspiring months of chats (and, of course, playlist challenges) with If You Love Music, You’re Already a DJ – our collaboration with Elijah, brought to life over on Instagram as well as here on Beatportal.
We’ve talked about what you actually need to start DJing, and what it really means to be a DJ. Our last discussion saw Elijah in conversation with Martyn, the esteemed artist, mentor and 3024 Music label boss, digging into why electronic music culture doesn’t need DJ worship.
Next up, we called upon DJ and producer SICARIA, a Beatport Next mainstay, to explore October’s topic: Curating Playlists is a Form of DJing. We zoomed in on the craft and care of playlisting – shaping taste, building collections and learning how music moves (or doesn’t) long before you ever touch the decks – as the pair also chat music sourcing and the connections that come with sharing sound.
Check out the conversation below and keep an eye out for SICARIA’s playlist challenge.
