The Big Tuna resurfaces
Need For Mirrors releases 12-track LP via Souped Up Records

Surfacing from the depths of London’s rave undercurrents, Joey Tuna marks the new chapter of Need For Mirrors – the veteran producer behind the iconic Soul In Motion movement and countless underground staples across Hospital, Metalheadz, and his own Zoltar label.
His debut album Joey Tuna drifts through the cartoon seas of Souped Up Records, blending moody, bass-heavy sonics with the label’s trademark off-kilter energy. Inspired by Katsuo Ningen, Japan’s surreal tuna-headed mascot, the project mirrors that strange duality — both eerie and playful, slick and submerged.
Across 12 tracks (plus two bonus cuts on the early sampler), the LP explores glowing rave depths: the hypnotic pull of Cuban Heel, the sonar tension of Narcan, the shimmering pulse of Belly Vibes, the masked drama of Phantom of the Ops, and the buoyant drift of Woodwind.
Joey Tuna is unmistakably Need For Mirrors — textured, cinematic, and soulful — yet a fresh tide for Souped Up, expanding its sound into deeper, more atmospheric waters.
To celebrate the release, Need For Mirrors brings Joey Tuna to life at Hootananny Brixton on November 1st, alongside Soul In Motion family and special guests.
