Dirtybird opens “Energy” remix competition with Native Instruments prizes
Entrants can remix Joanna Magik and Smalltown DJs’ collaboration and compete for a label release and professional production tools.

Dirtybird Records and Change the Beat have announced a new remix competition for “Energy”, the high-impact collaboration from Joanna Magik and Smalltown DJs, featuring Techno Tupac. The contest is part of Change the Beat’s ongoing mission to champion women and gender-expansive artists in electronic music, offering the chance to win an official release on Dirtybird and major prizes from Native Instruments.
Joanna Magik has become one of the most talked-about new names in North American dance music. Known for her punchy, bass-driven sets and unmistakable two-tone hair, she’s carved out a distinct identity in house and techno, with releases on Dirtybird, Box of Cats, Space Yacht and Glasgow Underground. Her tracks have earned support from heavyweights like Claude VonStroke, Biscits, and Black V Neck, while her festival highlights include Miami Music Week, ADE, Shambhala, Burning Man, and Dirtybird’s own Campout and CampINN.
Smalltown DJs bring more than two decades of experience to the mix. Known for genre-bending sets and a commitment to building community within Canada’s house scene, the duo’s music has landed on Dirtybird, What To Do and RDA, and earned them a Juno nomination in 2024.
The competition is being run with Change the Beat, a collective dedicated to creating opportunities for women and gender-expansive talent. All entrants must identify as such and join the Change the Beat Discord community to be eligible. As one of the most influential house labels in the world, Dirtybird has built a global reputation for its playful and innovative approach to club music, making this contest a valuable platform for rising producers to break through.
