Inviting one of house and techno’s most trusted selectors to reimagine a cornerstone of the label feels like a fitting way to mark two decades of Stil vor Talent. Gerd Janson, known for his genre-spanning sets and the unmistakable taste he’s showcased through his label Running Back and residencies at institutional clubs Robert Johnson and PanoramaBar, brings a fresh perspective to Koletzki’s breakthrough track.

His remix keeps the hypnotic drive of the original intact while weaving in a subtle disco touch, expanding its energy into something both timeless and immediate. It’s a respectful update that radiates Janson’s trademark finesse and a reminder of why Der Mückenschwarm remains one of the most iconic tracks in the label’s catalogue.

Interview with Gerd Janson

What’s the vibe or story behind your track for this release?
Gerd Janson: I remember still working in a recording shop, when Der Mückenschwarm was originally released. We sold so many copies of it that I ended up with sore muscles from putting it up on the wall by the minute. So, when I got asked to remix the track, it felt like a full circle moment.

What gear did you use?
Gerd Janson: Computer music is best made with computers.

How would you describe the sound of this track in 3–5 words?
Gerd Janson: As it’s pretty much impossible to top the original’s minimal-rave-brillancy, I went for the opposite direction. Something that is closer to a modern disco dub, while citing the key elements in the right moment.

Where do you imagine people listening to this track?
Gerd Janson: In their head, on raves, in night clubs and wherever else they want.

Where are you based right now, and where are you originally from?
Gerd Janson: I live in the greater area of Frankfurt am Main and was born in Arad, Romania.
