Beatport x Elijah: Electronic Music Culture Doesn’t Need DJ Worship
This month’s "If You Love Music, You’re Already a DJ" episode sees 3024 label boss Martyn join Elijah to explore where DJ worship comes from and ask whether electronic music can function without it.

In case you missed it: over the past few months we’ve been working with Elijah on If You Love Music, You’re Already a DJ, a series about what it means to experience, share and be part of electronic music and the culture around it.
So far, our conversations have taken us through questions such as What is a DJ? and ideas like You Don’t Need the Perfect Setup to Start DJing, with New York’s Jubilee joining us as our first guest. Now the series continues with DJ, producer, mentor and writer Martyn, who also runs the 3024 label, as we turn to the timely topic of Electronic Music Culture Doesn’t Need DJ Worship.
Together, the pair discuss where DJ worship stems from and how it shifts between generations and contexts, the impact of lockdown and those first encounters with nightlife spaces, and how the dance floor can be built as something shared beyond the DJ. Check out the pair in conversation below.
Beyond the monthly conversations, we’re bringing "If You Love Music, You’re Already a DJ" to life through playlist challenges, with a $1,000 DJ bundle from AlphaTheta/Pioneer DJ up for grabs each time.
Martyn is next up. Stay tuned for his theme, and get involved and learn more here.
