Mathame Drop Much-Anticipated "KOKO"
A dark, minimal yet emotional reinterpretation of street hip hop.
“KOKO” represents our reinterpretation of a sound rooted in our street hip hop past. Not everyone knows that back in the early 2000s we also produced hip hop beats. Now, this track has evolved into a kind of dark house hybrid with melodic tech elements — and it’s found incredible resonance in our sets.
We believe a new sonic language is emerging: dark, minimal, tech-driven, yet still emotional. For us, this is the right moment to experiment, step out of our comfort zone, and explore new territories where something unique is taking shape.
The track thrives on a playful contrast: while the lyrics speak about the comfort zone of being in one’s own “koko” (like a cocoon), the sound itself constantly challenges that very feeling.
