Riding the Light: Azalée Debut with Cinematic Melodic Techno in ‘Photons’
For their very first release as Azalée, longtime friends Nico and Lancelot deliver Photons, a melodic techno track that captures the feeling of a journey beyond time.

The title references the constant, unending motion of photons through the universe, and the music reflects that sense of perpetual movement.
“It all started with a rolling bassline,” they recall. “We don’t usually use that in our tracks, but it set the tone for everything that followed.” From there, wide synth layers and precisely placed percussions took shape, creating a balance between atmospheric breaks and more aggressive rhythmic sections.
The duo openly cites inspirations such as Bodzin’s analog percussive work, XX’s airy leads, and Anyma’s intricate sound design. Still, Photons is undeniably their own, built on a “less is more” philosophy that gives each element room to breathe. “We went through at least 13 bass versions,” they admit. “Sometimes removing things was more powerful than adding.”
The result is a track of contrasts: light versus shadow, delicacy versus drive, introspection versus motion. It’s an introduction not only to Azalée’s sound but also to their artistic DNA, one rooted in long-standing friendship, shared curiosity, and a meticulous approach to production.
Photons is out now, inviting listeners to let its pulse carry them forward, one beat at a time.
