Hey Jonas and Malive, thanks for joining us! First things first – congratulations on hitting #1! Have you had a chance to celebrate? (Also, happy belated birthday to you both!)

Jonas: Thank you – it’s been a whirlwind of a month, but I couldn’t be happier!

Malive: Hey! Thank you! What a birthday gift, right? Top 1 overall, hahaha.

When you both first finished “Edge Of Desire,” did you have a gut feeling it could connect on this scale?

Jonas: To be honest… yes. I knew “Edge of Desire” was completely unique and sounded like nothing else out there. With the lyric and the way it was recorded, I knew it was very catchy.

Malive: No doubts. This song has the power to break rules in any terms. It’s so catchy and danceable. Mixed with the Defected way of working releases, it became a bomb, definitely.

Jonas, you’ve said this track was born out of a big personal and creative reset when you moved to Miami. Can you talk about how that change of scenery shaped not just this song, but your current approach to making music?

Jonas: Moving to Miami was a complete reset for me. I wanted to change not just my surroundings, but my mindset and creative process. Being here gave me new energy, a fresh perspective, and a hunger to experiment. “Edge Of Desire” was one of the first tracks that came out of that space, and it really set the tone for where my sound is heading now.

Malive, you stated that a year ago, you were close to walking away from music entirely. What was going through your mind at that time, and what ultimately kept you going to reach this moment?

Malive: A year ago, I was on the edge, questioning my talent and whether it was worth continuing in music. But a small spark of love for what I do, along with the people who believe in me, kept me going. Now I see that not giving up was the best choice, because I was on the verge of something beautiful.

How did the two of you first connect?

Jonas: I first discovered Malive through an Adam Port DJ mix. At the time, I was working on a new direction for my sound, and when I heard this song called “Quintal” by Malive, I reached out to him on Instagram and asked if he would be up for working on a song together.

Malive: I knew Jonas through his iconic platinum tracks, but we connected after he texted me and the rest is history.

The track had massive DJ support from the jump – Rampa, Adriatique, Mau P, BLOND:ISH, Adam Ten and beyond. How did that early wave of love help propel “Edge Of Desire” forward?

Jonas: When DJs we admire started championing it before it was even out, it created this wave of momentum. Seeing it light up dance floors from Ibiza to Tulum before the release gave it an organic buzz that no marketing plan could match. It built a global anticipation we could feel every weekend.

Malive: It was surreal. I personally sent the track to each of them, and seeing these artists I admire play it right away felt like the universe telling me I was on the right path. That early support gave “Edge of Desire” a reach and energy I couldn’t have achieved alone, and knowing they felt the same emotion we did when creating it made it even more special.

With “Edge Of Desire” blasting on dance floors across the globe and lots of travel, what have been your biggest highlights in the Summer of 2025 (so far)?

Jonas: There have been so many… one for sure is Rampa and &ME playing it at DC10 in Ibiza and hearing the crowd sing along, dropping it at sunrise in Mykonos, and even just seeing videos from people dancing to it on the other side of the world. It’s been a summer of connection and pure joy. But probably the biggest highlight was “Edge of Desire” reaching #1 on Beatport for my birthday!

Malive: This summer has been incredible. Playing at Tomorrowland Brazil was a lifelong dream come true, and visiting places I never imagined – like Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey – showed me how universal the language of music truly is.

Looking ahead, how do you both see “Edge Of Desire” influencing the direction of your future releases – either together or individually?

Jonas: It’s shown us the power of trusting our instincts and making music that’s both emotional and club-ready. Whether we work together or on solo projects, we want to carry forward that same balance of energy and feeling that made this track resonate.

Malive: Landing a #1 with “Edge of Desire” was a milestone I’ll never forget, but it also comes with a certain pressure. It raises the bar – not just for how the world sees you, but for how you see yourself. For me, that challenge is fuel… it pushes me to keep evolving, to create music that’s not only chart-worthy but timeless.
