Sebastian Wibe: A Rising Star’s Life Beyond the Decks

Sebastian Wibe is one of the rising stars of electronic music and the driving force behind the new Warehouse Rave sound, racking support from top tier DJs such as Tiesto, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Diplo & Oliver Heldens. He was also named ‘Best New Artist’ at the Danish Club Awards and has made official remixes for artists like Ava Max, Alan Walker, and Nile Rodgers.

After teaming up with R3WIRE on last year’s release ‘Main Attraction’ (part of the Heldeep DJ Tools EP), he is starting to become a familiar face in the Heldeep family. To celebrate his recent release ‘drift (burnforyou)’, he took the time to answer questions about his hobbies, sports, movies and his bucket list.

What are your passions and hobbies outside of music?
I LOVE cooking – I spend a lot of time in the studio daily, so I don’t always have the time, but nothing beats spending my Sunday cooking up a ragu or stew for many hours. Time, lots of love (and Mutti tomatoes) is the answer to a good ragu!

If you hadn't become an artist, what job would you have wanted to do?
Definitely something involving writing – either as a journalist or author (but I def also had a childhood dream of being a paleontologist and discover some badass dinosaurs).

Do you practice any sports?
Actually my best friends and I have a monthly ‘challenge’ where we try a new sport each time – so the past years I’ve been taking up fencing, Greek dancing and blindfolded Qi Gong among other things. Definitely more into just hitting the gym tho haha.

What’s your favorite movie?
Lord Of The Rings – Return Of The King! No question about it, but Batman – The Dark Knight and Superbad come close.

What’s your ideal type of vacation?
I’m not good at tanning on the beach, so definitely something involving a jungle and a bit of hiking. At the same time, I’m always trying to bring my computer, in case a new idea for a song pops up, so I might not wanna travel too far away from a power outlet…

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
I wanna perform at Tomorrowland and Ultra and create an album that I can look back many years from now and still be proud of. My biggest bucket list goal is to throw a huge concert in my home country Peru to raise money for the kids in the orphanage I came from. I’m adopted and came to Denmark when I was three months old, so to be able to go to my home country and give back to the staff and kids at the orphanage would be something I'd be forever grateful to do. I was given an opportunity and a loving family when I was brought to Denmark, and I don’t intend to waste that.

What kind of person are you outside the DJ/producer life?
I love to spend my days with friends and family. Laughing, doing fun stuff and just enjoying life. I also love to attend concerts (going to see Justice live next month), read books and just enjoy all the things Copenhagen has to offer.

What does a good night out look like for you?
Definitely get started with the boys down at our favorite pub (or if the sun shines, outside with a cold one – nothing beats a beer in the sun). Then spend the night hitting up different bars and meeting up with a lot of good friends, before ending at a rave somewhere.

Do you have any guilty pleasures you would like to confess?
I proudly (and guilt-free) stand by that Release Me by Agnes is one of the best pop-songs ever made! But okay, a real guilty pleasure, hmmm... The first few seasons of Sex and the City are fire!

What famous person do you dream of having dinner with?
If I could travel back in time and spend a dinner with Freddie Mercury from Queen or Prince and get to ask unlimited music-related questions, I’d be a happy man. Also, I reckon that the dinner could turn into quite the bender.

Do you have any odd collections at home?
Hmmm tough one – not yet I’m afraid, but trying to get a bit more into my nerdy side again, so if you ask me again in a year I might have a great collection of Pokémon cards or Warhammer figures! We’ll see.
