Meet…Grandma Techno

“They call me Grandma Techno,” explained the lady in the motorized scooter.

She was down towards the front of the Beatport stage at Movement festival in Detroit, bopping her head along to the tripped out tech house beats of Lee Burridge.

Detroit’s Movement festival attracts all ages and there were plenty of children and families present at the event, but seeing a lady in her 60s in a granny cart was something we didn’t expect.

Worthy of Katabatic and Dirtybird [l] records have officially released a music video for his track “Work the Walls.” It is a hot 80s- and spandex-infused video that was shot in Oakland.

‘Going Back To My Roots’ gets remixed on Subliminal Records

‘Going Back To My Roots’, Lamont Dozier’s socio-political track was inspired in the ‘70s by the apartheid regime’s treatment of Africans in South Africa.

It is a perennial favourite to the club fraternity, although I’m betting few know the roots to the song.

(See, it’s an education reading my blogs!)

Dance Anthem: Tomas Andersson ‘Washing Up’ (Tiga Mix)

Swedish producer Tomas Andersson [a] shot to international stardom with his stupidly fun electro house record ‘Washing Up’ which, thanks to a mix from Tiga [a], became one of the biggest tracks of 2005.

The first time I heard ‘Washing Up’ was at Glade Festival in England, and when the beat dropped after the huge breakdown, the tent went insane.

Top Track: Suspicious Stench ‘Ghost Town’

There’s nothing like putting a 1980s pop tune through the dubstep grinder, and here Suspicious Stench [a] do an amazing rework of The Specials ‘Ghost Town’, a 1981 hit that made it to No.1 in the UK Top 40.

The original ska track is a brilliant piece of pop anyway, but Suspicious Stench take it to the next level with some serious growling bass and brief echos of the original track thrown in for good remembrance measure.

We dug up the original video on YouTube of The Specials ‘Ghost Town’ - check it out after the jump, and then compare it with Suspicious Stench’s dubstep version in the player below.

Beyond The Valley

Anja Schneider [Mobilee]

Mobilee continues its well-earned ascent with a second full-length release, courtesy of label boss Anja Schneider [a].

While much of her imprint’s output has focused on the bleaker, after-after party end of minimal techno, Anja’s own work (produced in conjunction with Paul Brtschitsch) has always maintained a more organic appeal, thanks to judicious use of granular delays, distant melodic motifs and a cohesive, strangely wholesome vibe.

Konrad Black drops new mix of Mathew Jonson ‘Marionette’

Here’s a video I filmed of Konrad Black [a] playing a new mix of Mathew Jonson [a] ‘Marionette’.

‘Marionette’ is one of the most beautiful techno records of all time in my humble opinion, and this new mix is a bit more minimal and darker than the melodic, melancholic original.

Anyone know what mix this is?

Oi Oi Oi Remixed
